Product Description
A fine Victorian travellers watercolour of the Temple of Poseidon at Paestum in Italy. The temples were a must see for travellers to Italy and indeed figures can be seen in this work inspecting the ruins and even the artist’s easel is in the foreground. The work is signed D.Harvey and dated 1891 although he is not recorded he obviously had a great talent. He may well have had something to do with the army as on the reverse it is inscribed Charles Churchill, Wellington Engineers. The work is mounted in an antique ebonised framed with gilt slip. The painting is in excellent condition and the overall buff tone is from the paper used to paint on.
overall sizes in inches including frame: 19 3/4 by 26 1/2
