Rare Georgian old Sheffield plate coffee pot
Rare Georgian old Sheffield plate coffee pot
£495.00
A rare and fine example of an eighteenth-century old Sheffield plate coffee pot. The design of the piece is pure Rococo with wonderful embossed flowers to the body encircling a superb engraved family crest with motto in Greek. The base and lid have a fine gadrooned border and the finial top is beautifully cast as is the spout. The original handle has an elegant curve and is made of carved walnut with a great colour and patina. There are some old Sheffield plate marks to the neck of the pot which are registered in the Bradbury Book of Hallmarks. The coffee pot is in excellent condition with as would be expected some bleeding of the base metal through the silver in raised areas. This is an exceptionally fine and early example of old Sheffield silver plate and a rare survival. C.1760
