Superb Set Of Four Victorian Miniatures
Make an enquiry about this item
A superb set of four Victorian watercolour miniatures. The group depict gentleman enjoying various vices such as alcohol and snuff, in a comedic light hearted fashion. The two portraits of the older gentleman retain newspaper clippings on the reverse indicating they may represent the actor David Garrick and it is possible the the other two also represent a famous actor of the time. The works are beautifully observed in great detail and by a competent artist, they do not appear to be signed but as they are completely untouched at the back I have not taken them out of the frame to inspect further. The miniatures are all in excellent condition with great bright colours and no damage. The paintings all retain the original, wonderful gilt frames of simple design with all original gilding and only very minor repairs. It is very rare to still have a group of such quality miniatures together like this and they make a great decorative impact. C.1860.
