Product Description
A fine oil on panel still life of fruit by Eugene Claude (1841-1922). The painting is beautifully worked with broad confident brushstrokes in an impressionist manner. The work captures the texture of the peaches and grapes brilliantly. The painting is signed to the lower right ‘E Claude’ and is in excellent untouched condition. The gilt frame is almost certainly the original and is in good country house condition.
Eugene Claude was a specialist painter of still life and interiors. He exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1861, where he also received an honourable mention in 1885, and a bronze medal in 1887. He was also awarded a bronze medal at the 1889 Exposition Universelle.
A fine and decorative work with great country house appeal and ready to hang. C.1890.
