Product Description
A charming and highly decorative pair of oil on canvas laid to board paintings. The pair depict bullfinches in the blossom of a fruit tree. The works have elements of Arts and Crafts design, Aesthetic movement and Japonisme of the end of the nineteenth century. The quality of the work is fantastic and the detail on the birds and each individual blossom superb. The paintings are not signed and it is likely they were part of a decorative room scheme originally, or possibly even a room divider. The pair are framed in period oak frames with the original silvered slips. Both are in great condition; the paintings have been cleaned and the frames are in original untouched condition. The background colour of one is slightly darker than the other but this is hardly noticeable and likely either done on purpose or simply an effect of the paint over time. A great pair of paintings with huge decorative appeal that would work well in a variety of interiors. C.1900.
