A pair of wonderfully decorative bookends in alabaster mounted with spelter dog heads. The pair are applied with models of dogs after originals by the great animalier sculptor Prosper Lecourtier. The dogs are a setter and a blood hound cast in spelter and then gilded. The gilt has worn away on both dogs and left them with a great faded patina. The pair are in good condition, the alabaster bases are in great original condition, the dogs have the odd casting fault but nothing major. The pair are wonderful decorative items with a great period look. C.1920.
