A charming and atmospheric oil on canvas view of Windsor Castle. The scene shows a distant view of the castle with the river to the foreground. The painting is signed to the lower left ‘William Matthews’ and dated 1918. William Matthews is recorded as having exhibited from 1914-1940 with an address in London, he showed 14 works at the Royal Academy and 27 at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. The painting has been professionally cleaned and a small repair made. The frame is from the correct period and is probably the original, it has the original gilding and has had some minor repairs. The whole has a lot of decorative appeal and is a wonderful view of this most famous of landmarks.
