Product Description
A fine and decorative oil on artist board by Alfred Sanderson Edward RBA 1852-1915. The work is titled on the reverse ‘On the river Maas’ and depicts a typically Dutch landscape scene. The painting is in excellent untouched condition and is signed to the lower left.
Alfred Sanderson Edward (1852-1915), was a marine and landscape painter who was born in Dundee and who was later apprenticed to an architect before going on to study art in Edinburgh. He exhibited at the principal London galleries from 1876 including 5 works at the Royal Academy and was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists in 1894. He exhibited an impressive 216 works at the Royal Society of British Artists. A member of the London Sketch Club, he painted in France, Holland, Spain, The Canaries and Africa.
The work is mounted in a modern fine quality painted frame that works very well the tone of the painting. The back of the work retains both the artist’s personal label and title label indicating it was most likely an exhibited piece. The whole has a great fresh modern decorative appeal and is ready to hang. C.1900
