Unusual large Victorian salt glazed stoneware Unicorn. The Unicorn is charmingly and naively modelled, wide eyed and with a strange conical horn. The whole is in good condition and would have been a large hearth or mantel ornament originally having made a pair with a lion. The lion and the unicorn were symbolic for Great Britain and a popular motif in the Victorian period. The unicorn was probably made in Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire C.1880.
