Product Description
A lovely and beautifully preserved example of a Regency period leather work box. The box is in wonderfully untouched and original condition. The whole has a wonderful neoclassical sarcophagus shape typical of the period. The gilt ball and talon feet are the original as are the lion mask handles and other applied decorative metalwork. The leather is in really good condition, it has gently faded from red to a chestnut colour and has very few defects. The interior is just amazing, all original and retaining the silk lining printed with a picture of the infant Moses being discovered in the Nile. There is a wonderful contrast between the red leather interior and the compartment lining paper which is sliver with black motifs. The whole is just a lovely country house antique in great untouched worn condition. C.1810
