Still life watercolour of apples by Fred Spencer
Still life watercolour of apples by Fred Spencer
£295.00
A superb still life watercolour depicting apples by the artist Fred Spencer who exhibited between 1891-1924. The work skilfully depicts a group of apples on stalks with leaves, resting on the ground. There is a wonderful softness to the painting technique, almost dreamlike. The condition of the piece is excellent with the colours bright and true and it is signed to the lower right. Fred Spencer is a highly regarded but little-known specialist still life painter who exhibited widely and prolifically including, 16 works at the Royal Academy as well as works at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, and Institute of Painters in Watercolours, Liverpool, Birmingham, and Dudley. This is a fine example of his work in the original mount and gilt frame. The frame has had some minor repairs in areas and has been regilt. C.1900.
Overall sizes in inches including frame: 14 ¼ by 9 ¼
