Fine large sampler by Miriam Liddell dated 1837
£495.00
A fine large sampler by Miriam Liddell dated 1837 the very first year of the reign of Queen Victoria. The work is beautifully stitched in fine cross stitch with a wide rambling rose border. The centre is occupied by a beautiful country house with an elegant garden. There is a very unusual large motif of a boy riding a dog as well as copious plants, animals, birds and insects. The verse is a charming personal religious text to the maker of the sampler. The name and date Miriam Liddell 1837 is stitched directly under the house. The whole is in really excellent condition with just the very odd minor little hole, the colours are also good with a slight fading. The piece is mounted in a fine quality modern maple frame which works perfectly with the whole. A great example of this period sampler in very good condition.
Overall sizes in inches including frame: 24 ½ by 26
