Wheatsheaves oil painting attributed to Roy Morris
Wheatsheaves oil painting attributed to Roy Morris
£120.00
An interesting oil study on paper by Roy Morris 1890-1967. The work takes the unusual form of depicting wheatsheaves in the very low light of dusk, giving the whole a ghostly feel where the golden colour of the corn seems to attract what light there is. The work is not signed but comes from a small collection of this artist’s work. Roy Morris was a painter and etcher, who was the son of the artist Thomas W.G. Morris. He studied at the Chester School of Art, the Slade School of Fine Art and the Central School of Arts & Crafts. He taught at Derby School of Art from 1920 and exhibited at the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, New English Art Club, Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Society of British Artists and Walker Art Gallery. The painting has been professionally mounted in a modern frame and the whole has a great decorative impact. C.1940.
Overall sizes in inches including frame: 17 by 14 ¾
