Oil of a rough collie by George Earl 1824-1908
Oil of a rough collie by George Earl 1824-1908
£450.00
A fine oil sketch on card depicting a rough collie by the artist George Earl 1824-1908. The work beautifully catches the dog in a quick sketch using bold brushstrokes and colour. The painting is signed to the lower left ‘G Earl’. George Earl 1824-1908 was a highly regarded sporting artist particularly in painting dogs. He was a part of the well-known Earl family of animal artists, brother to Thomas and father to Maud and Percy. Little is known of his early years but he went on to exhibit 19 works at the Royal Academy as well as many times at other London galleries. This work is a later one for the artist and in great original condition, it also retains the original untouched gilt frame. The whole has a great look and wonderfully captures the character of this breed of the dog. C.1890.
Overall sizes in inches including frame: 18 ¾ by 16 ½
