A fine and interesting Anglo Indian teak writing slope. The writing slope is of a typical English form but has obviously been made in India by Indian craftsman. The box is in solid teak with a lovely figuring and patina. The outside of the box is inlaid in brass in a similar way to campaign furniture but it also has some fine decorative inlay to the centre. The inside of the box is in great untouched condition with the original green velvet slope. Interestingly it has secret drawers in a place often seen in fine English writing slopes, so the craftsman in India must have copied an actual writing slope they had seen. The box is an interesting example in excellent condition, even with working key. C.1860.
